Alameda's Geodesic Dome
Near the southeast corner of the grounds, nestled among apple trees, stands a striking addition to Alameda's - a 30-foot geodesic dome. Covered in heavy stretched canvas over a metal frame, the dome features a wood-burning stove, a geothermal heated floor, and an enormous bay window. At 695 square feet (65 square meters), this amazing space is suitable for dance, yoga, music, or gatherings. Open 9 months of the year (roughly from April through November).

About Geodesic Domes:

From the mind of inventor Buckminster Fuller came what has been argued as the lightest, strongest, and most cost-effective structure ever devised - the geodesic dome. Fuller's passion lay in "Comprehensive Anticipatory Design Science", which anticipates mass human problems and applies technology to solve them, using the least resources, for the benefit of all.

Its spherical nature makes a dome construction lighter and stronger the larger it is. No corners means constant ambient air flow, increasing energy efficiency. These are but two of many compelling reasons for building a dome. Search "geodesic dome" online for more information on Fuller and his invention.

To understand the rest of the allure of a dome, try standing in one. The acoustics are unique; sound seems to envelope you. Its natural circle invites a gathering. Our dome is perfect for bringing people together in a special, intimate setting.
